Julie immediately came in and introduced herself, explained what was happening and what the plan was. She provided privacy for the patient and family during the dying process yet remained readily available. Julie displayed genuine concern, understanding, empathy to my father and all of us as well. She provided seating as more of Dad's grand and great-grandchildren arrived. Julie made sure everyone felt welcome. She brought in cups of ice water and 2 baskets of snacks and drinks. Julie was proactive in reporting Dad's condition to the physician, pastoral care, and the house staff. She provided great emotional support especially to my mother, sister, and me. Julie stated how sorry she was for our loss, patted our backs and rubbed our hands and arms at times. The room became quite emotional and at one point I noticed her wiping away tears yet still providing support. Her presence truly made a big difference during our grieving and the loss of our father. It will be a moment in time that added great benefit in one of life's most difficult moments.
