She is an excellent vision of what a leader should be. I have been blessed to follow her and see what nursing administration truly is.
Julie has been with Covenant Medical Center for some time as a director in acute care nursing. I have had the extraordinary honor of shadowing Julie during my master’s program. Julie is simply extraordinary. She strives to be the most authentic leader with compassion, kindness, dignity, and integrity. On multiple occasions, she has stopped what she was working on to assist patients, family, and staff alike.
In one instance, while rounding, she stopped her rounds to help a patient get to the discharge lobby. The discharge lobby was backed up and was struggling to assist patients in a timely manner. Instead of asking someone else to do it, she found a wheelchair and took it upon herself. Over the last year, Julie has shown great compassion in everything she does. Her team trusts her with anything and everything. She consistently works to show everyone she interacts with the kindness I have not experienced anywhere else.
As she rounds the hospital, she stops to say hello to everyone she passes. She is a special kind of leader wherever she goes. She provides assistance and understanding when educating. She takes time out of her day to help patients understand why their safety is at the forefront of her mind. She helps patients reach an agreement and understanding about bed alarms when they become upset. She has sat in rooms for hours just to listen to the patient and become their advocate. Julie often encourages her team to maintain a work-life balance to achieve the outcomes needed. She is willing to understand and work with staff to see the bigger picture. She encourages them to push the nursing units to perform to the best of their ability.
I have had the distinct pleasure of working under her at the bedside, at the nursing level. Julie is an excellent example of what Covenant Medical Center is all about. She is heavily involved in her family’s activities and in the organization. I have seen her volunteer her time to help with the community. She is always one of the first to sign up to help with something. She celebrates her team and the bedside nursing staff. She celebrates the organization in the same way. Overall, I have been so impressed by the individual Julie displays. She is an excellent vision of what a leader should be.
