Fortunately for me, Julie stepped up and took the initiative to call my Dr in California to get verification before we did the test.
I am so grateful for Julie’s kindness, compassion for her work, and dedication and perseverance for making sure that the care provided to me was accurate and what was truly supposed to occur. My care could have had a very bad outcome had she not checked and double-checked on what was being prescribed for the medication that was to be injected for my Cortisol Stim test. My doctor from a different facility in another state had told me to make sure that whoever does my test makes sure they only inject 1 microgram of the medicine prescribed as he wanted the low dose stim test. I asked the APN that was assigned to review and approve everything since my Dr. was out of state how much was on the order? I told her it was supposed to be 1 mcg and she said it was 1 milligram. I told her it was supposed to be the 1 mcg so I asked her to look up in my records what it was before because I was having the exact same thing and that last time they did it correctly. She did and she said it was the same as last time and was going to inject the 1 ML instead of the 1 mcg. Fortunately for me, Julie stepped up and took the initiative to call my Dr in California to get verification before we did the test. While I had to be there for 4 hours instead of 1 it was so worth waiting to get validation from the ordering physician. Unfortunately, two things happened incorrectly. First, the nurse at the ordering facility did the order incorrectly and second, the provider at OSF looked it up and misread that the last test actually was 1 mcg and this one should have been as well. Julie saved me from getting 10 times the amount of medicine injected and I am so grateful for the dedication she showed to me in making sure that the orders and what was needed to be done that day were correct. We need more nurses like her with the dedication she has for ensuring her patients are treated with the correct procedures as well as making you feel comfortable. She was outstanding!! I thank her so much for taking the time and being persistent to ensure my safety.
