Because of Julie’s actions, the two were able to spend some quality time together. This act of kindness was a true demonstration of Julie's character and exemplary problem-solving skills.
Julie Earnest is one of the most caring and compassionate nurses that I have had the honor to work with. Julie comes to work each day thinking "how will I positively impact my patients' lives today." She has a number of award winning attributes including being a critical thinker, resourceful, a great communicator, and serving as a true patient advocate.

Julie has a knack for tidiness. She very frequently helps in keeping our office space tidy/neat and clean. This also applies to patient rooms whenever we round. Julie is known to have a great sense of humor - it's never a dull moment around her.   She has a positive attitude that allows her to maintain an excellent rapport with nurses, therapists, and providers. When faced with a challenging situation, it's very common amongst us in rapid response team to quip, "What Would Julie Do?"

Two examples of Julie’s impact:

A family member wrote a PACT card highlighting how Julie went above and beyond for her parents, who were admitted with COVID and had to be isolated in two separate rooms. This admission was particularly difficult and stressful for this couple, who had been inseparable for many decades. When the wife’s clinical condition became more critical, Julie, in her true fashion, stepped in, consulted the appropriate administrators, and obtained clearance to transport the husband to her bedside. Because of Julie’s actions, the two were able to spend some quality time together. This act of kindness was a true demonstration of Julie's character and exemplary problem-solving skills.

Recently, I attended a Charge Nurse fundamental class. During the class, I was delighted to hear the overwhelming gratitude that the charge nurses had for Julie. Class attendees described Julie as approachable, supportive, always willing to help, respectful, assertive, and a committed patient advocate. One of the charge RNs on 9G said, "Julie is the person you need by your side when your patient is deteriorating because she knows how to get the ICU providers to bedside." On multiple occasions I have witnessed Julie directly call ICU attending physicians to eloquently advocate for patients needs using SBAR. On many occasions, she has facilitated prompt transfers to ICU to intervene on the patient’s behalf.

Julie was recently appointed the LEAD CHARGE RRT RN, which broadened the admiration and respect our team has for her abilities. To our rapid response team, she is a friend, mentor, advisor, and encourager. Julie is the one most of us feel comfortable sharing our troubles with and the one who coaches us with genuine love and honesty.
