During her assessment, Julie identified subtle changes in her patient’s behavior. Every time she would lift the covers to assess the patient’s dressing, the patient would move her hands to cover herself.

During one assessment, the patient did not move her hands as she had done each time before. Julie and her preceptor, Akira, responded quickly and activated the ERT. The patient was air-lifted to another facility to have a thrombectomy. Julie’s quick recognition and fast action very likely saved the patient’s life and prevented disability.
