One Saturday, I cared for a patient who Julie had cared for recently. She was with him the day he was diagnosed with Cancer. She asked him how he and his family were. They talked and joked. Julie went in and told the family "Goodnight" and she hoped he felt better. The next day, Julie and I came in to work again. Later that morning, the same patient returned for lab work. Julie told me that it was his birthday and that we needed to do something. She blew up 2 gloves to be balloons, made a sign, and had everyone sign it. Then she got some cookies and put them on a platter. Lastly, she gathered all the staff together so we could go in and sing "Happy Birthday" to him. He was so surprised that she would go to this extent for him. He told us those were the best chocolate chip cookies and he sat and ate them with a smile on his face.

Julie is one of the kindest Emergency Department nurses I know. She knows everyone's name and makes a point to say "Hi" to anyone who passes her by. She exemplifies every attribute of the DAISY Award.
