Passion and Compassion for Nursing: Julie comes to work with a can-do attitude and a smile. She brightens up patients' and coworkers' attitudes. She recently brought in a pair of tap shoes and tap-danced for staff and patients. Everyone who encountered her could not help but smile (and laugh and wonder what will Julie do next to make us smile). Her humor is therapeutic and uplifting. She always has a joke or a smile to brighten their day. She also has a great rapport with our physicians. Physicians are comfortable approaching her with orders and questions. They cannot help but smile and laugh when she is talking to them (even when they are stressed about EPIC)!
Excellence in the Situation: Julie was recognized by a patient recently, "Julie was my primary nurse. I was talked to professionally and personally. All my questions were answered and if she didn't have the answer, she found it. The staff were kind to each other and handled any distractions with ease. Trust and Teamwork: Julie volunteered to man the surgical consent station during skills day when managers were at a leadership retreat. She was professional and knowledgeable to staff and answered all their questions.
Julie is an active member of our unit UPC. She is the scribe for the group, circulates the minutes to staff and volunteers for difficult tasks. She recently helped design/institute a new patient/family handout that gives patients and families a timeline for their stay. She also volunteered to coordinate with our orthopedic group to clarify discharge instructions. This is a huge task with 5 surgeons to contact and approve instructions and get them put into EPIC.

Julie has helped change the culture in the department. She makes everyone smile and be happy when she is working. When asked "What can I do to make our team a winning team?" Her response is "Be positive. Let the negative roll off my back. And remind others how good we have it." Julie lives this every day!! We are very lucky to have her on our team!!

She delivers personalized care to every patient. She has been known to call for a birthday cake for a patient who will be in the department for a very short period of time.
