Julie exemplifies the kind of nurse that our patients, their families and our staff recognizes as an outstanding role model. She demonstrates compassion, is a patient advocate, provides family and patient comfort where needed, and always provides excellent patient service.
... Julie cared for a dying patient all day. She went out of her way to meet not only the patient's needs from a skilled nursing stand point but also met the needs of the family. The family was very large with many children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Julie made them feel comfortable and did everything in her power to meet their needs. Julie bathed the patient with the help of a granddaughter and made sure the patient was clean. Upon rounding the husband of the patient told the manager that "this one", Julie, was one of the family now. He said they, the family, could not have done this without her. He said he had 3 daughters but Julie was his fourth now. He said that as difficult as this was Julie made it better. Julie texted her manager at shift change and said she knew that death was not far away and wanted to stay on until the patient passed. She stayed on with the family well after shift change. She made sure all the paper was completed but mostly she allowed the family to grieve and she grieved with them.
This is not the first time she has done things like this. She takes care of our Total Joint Patients as if they are her family. She becomes a member of everyone's family. They always return looking for Julie!! Julie is a nurse because she was called to be a nurse. She truly believes in taking care of the whole patient! She genuinely cares. Every day that Julie comes to work she gives 150%!
Julie has so many families that call to the floor to let us know what an Angel she was/is to their loved one. She visits with patients at the Brian Center that she has taken care of here. One particular patient didn't have any family and had to go to the Cardinal Care. Julie has visited him several times and been his "adopted" family. All of her patients consider her family. Julie comes to work each day with the mentality that every patient will be treated like her family!
