Julie and the doctor made multiple phone calls to doctors, nurses, and management on my husband's unit to arrange for him to be transported down so he could be present for the birth of our daughter.
On Monday my husband's appendix unexpectedly ruptured and he was taken in for emergent surgery that day at Good Samaritan Hospital. At the time, I was 37 weeks pregnant and of course, this caused a considerable amount of stress. Three days later my water broke while I was visiting my husband in the hospital who was having a complicated recovery since his surgery. I was so upset when my water broke because I knew that I was going to have the baby that day and that my husband probably couldn't be there even though he was only 2 floors above me. When I arrived to the Labor and Delivery unit and explained my situation to Julie, I felt that she went above and beyond to take care of me. Julie and the doctor made multiple phone calls to doctors, nurses, and management on my husband's unit to arrange for him to be transported down so he could be present for the birth of our daughter. They also permitted my mother to be my support person as my husband obviously could not. Julie stayed over 4 hours after her shift ended until I was ready to be transferred to postpartum. She was always calm, caring, and supportive throughout the whole process and I could not have asked for a better first time L&D experience despite my husband's condition.
