Julie Morimoto has demonstrated patient care above and beyond what I would expect a nurse to deliver. Whenever Sequoia has an insulin pump patient, Julie has been there in the early hours of the morning, weekends, and even at night to consult and set up insulin pumps to make sure these patients can go to the OR, get admitted, or go home with the correct insulin coverage. She has been an invaluable resource for nurses, patients, and doctors as she helps to educate the patients on how to manage their diabetes and keep them out of the hospital.
There was one example in particular, where she came in on a Saturday to consult on a newly diagnosed patient. She worked with the patient, nurses, and provider to develop an education and lifestyle plan for this patient. The education Julie provided enabled this patient to get discharged on Saturday and contributed to lessening the length of stay for this patient. She has also led patient education classes in the past to help newly diagnosed patients manage their diabetes and adjust to their new lifestyle.
