Not only did Julie buy them spending her own money, but she also packed separately for women and men in different sizes.
I am so proud, and my heart was touched by the generosity of Julie Piggott who showed her heart to the patients, who are in need/homeless patients.
Julie Piggott is one of the experienced nurses I have known for a long time. She always has compassion towards the patients and caregivers, especially novice nurses and the nurses who need help. She never ignores their call and spends a lot of time with service recovery. She always stands for them and voices their concerns on behalf of them. I heard a lot of kindness stories about her but would like to point out at least two.
I heard that a patient was admitted at rainy nighttime and got upset that he did not have his eye drops from home. The patient's family member (an elderly lady) was afraid to drive in the heavy rain to get drops from the home. Julie drove the elderly family member to her house and made sure that the patient received the eye drops on time. Without question that the elderly couple blessed her for her big heart.
The other incident is that caregivers always struggle to get clothing/personal hygiene items for the patients who are in need at the time of the discharge, especially homeless or group home people. We used to have a bin which was empty for a long time. We usually keep items for the patients who are in need. Since the funding from the administration has stopped, the process was broken.
Julie realized the situation and has sympathy for those patients. She went to Bealls to buy clothes. Not only did she buy them spending her own money, but she also packed separately for women and men in different sizes. The patient who was supposed to be discharged without clothes was so happy when I handed over the clothes and sandals per his size. Caregivers appreciated her kindness every day when they take supplies. She gave life to the process again.
She also makes sure that caregivers are happy by baking cakes and bringing chocolates to cheer them up at work. She coordinates/ celebrates their birthdays.
Julie, I am so happy to be your coworker/friend. I wish you well. You are a true DAISY Nurse for all the good deeds you do for patients and your fellow workers. You made an enormous difference in the lives of so many people with your generosity. Way to go Julie! So proud of you!
