Julie was the primary nurse for a 45-year-old full arrest. After completing care of the patient, she assisted with the notification of family. The patient's 24-year-old daughter found the patient deceased! Julie's kindness and compassion really showed by her spending time consoling the daughter. The patient's mother then arrived and informed Julie that she herself just lost her mother at 4:30 am. This family lost her mother and daughter in a 4 hour period. Julie spent several hours with the family. The coroner's office released the body but the family insisted an autopsy needed to be done. Julie found a liaison from the main campus who arranges for medical students to get experience with autopsies. Julie contacted this person, pleaded for help and consideration for this family. Julie was told permission was needed from the pathologist on call and advocated for the family and with her persistence, he agreed to allow the autopsy for this patient. Julie then needed to make arrangements for transport of the body to the main campus. Julie was advocating for this family while continuing to provide care for her other patients and their families. Julie goes above and beyond for all patients and families.

Thank you, Julie, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
