Through the use of music and dance, the patient took his necessary medications. Not only was he compliant with this, but he smiled and danced himself.
We had a patient who has spent over 100 days with us. He has been difficult, non-compliant, and depressed. This patient has been refusing necessary medication. Refusal of this medication had potentially sent him to the ICU for intubation. Due to this, Julie has been innovative with care. With empathy and compassion, Julie found a way to get this patient to participate in care and take his medications. Through the use of music and dance, the patient took his necessary medications. Not only was he compliant with this, but he smiled and danced himself. This is something no staff member had ever seen before. This has opened the door for this patient to continue care and potentially progress to the next level of care. It was this moment that makes working through these tough times better. I am proud to learn and work alongside such an amazing nurse and person.
