Nurse Julie was the one who took me into care when I rushed into Labor and Delivery at just 34 weeks pregnant. I was in labor and did not know it until minutes before I had given birth. She met me back in one of the rooms and started to get my information. When I told her I was in too much pain to speak (I did not know how serious the emergency I was having was), she understood and told me to put on a gown and give a urine sample. When I tried to give a urine sample, my water broke, and that caused my baby to have a prolapsed cord, and she was footling breech. She urgently told me to get on the bed and lie down, that I was going to have an emergency cesarean section. I was, of course, terrified and was worried about my baby's well-being. She put the fetal heart monitor on my belly to listen for her heart, and she assured me that the baby had a heartbeat and was okay, until we lost it and the doctor still hadn't arrived. My baby was coming, and there was no time to wait. I remember my nurse telling me that the baby had to come out now to push, and sure enough, she came. She took great care of me from the time I walked through those doors until I delivered the placenta, and even came to check up on my baby and me a few days later. I truly do not think that my baby girl and I would be here if it wasn't for her; if there's any nurse that deserves this Award, it's her!
