I was sharing information with my team during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. Julie reached out and volunteered to work on the unit that was dedicated to the care of patients suffering from the virus. She was caring for a patient with developmental difficulties and who was afraid, as his mother was his primary caregiver and unable to visit him. Julie used her personal cell phone in a plastic bag and FaceTime so the patient could see and speak with his mother during her shifts. She even went back to share her phone again during a later shift when the patient was not assigned to her. The patient's mother was so touched by Julie's acts of kindness, that she has offered to donate devices to the hospital so other families can remain in touch during this difficult time. The fourth floor and critical care teams have reached out several times to share how much they appreciated Julie's positive attitude and clinical expertise. These are just a few examples of how Julie truly embodies our Mission and Values. Her actions have provided comfort to patients and her peers during this challenging time. I am grateful that Julie is part of our SSM Health family.
