We, the nursing team and staff of 6 North, are honored to collectively nominate our colleague and mentor, Juliet Williams, for the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. This nomination comes not from one voice, but from many — nurses, colleagues, and caregivers who have had the privilege of working beside Juliet throughout her more than 33 years of extraordinary service to this unit and to the patients we serve. We believe, wholeheartedly and without reservation, that no one is more deserving of this recognition.
The DAISY Award honors nurses who demonstrate exceptional compassion, clinical skill, and a commitment to patient care that goes above and beyond the call of duty. Juliet has embodied every one of these qualities throughout her entire career. She is the nurse that patients remember long after their discharge — the steady, compassionate presence that made them feel seen, cared for, and safe during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives.
Clinical Excellence and Medical-Surgical Certification
Juliet holds her Medical-Surgical nursing certification — a credential that reflects not just competency, but a genuine dedication to mastering her specialty. Her clinical knowledge has been an anchor for this team. When complex situations arise, we look to Juliet. Her ability to assess, prioritize, and act with both precision and compassion has prevented complications, improved patient outcomes, and set a standard of care that inspires everyone around her. She approaches every patient with equal skill and equal humanity, regardless of the complexity of their case.
Leadership as a Charge Nurse
As a Charge Nurse, Juliet has led this unit with the kind of quiet, unshakable authority that earns genuine respect. She manages the most challenging shifts with composure, ensuring that staffing, patient assignments, and the flow of care are coordinated seamlessly. But what sets Juliet apart as a leader is not just her operational skill — it is her accessibility. She has always been approachable, fair, and present. When a team member needed guidance, reassurance, or simply a colleague to think through a difficult situation, Juliet was there. She leads by example, and her example has always been one of excellence.
Dedication as a Preceptor and Mentor
Perhaps the most lasting dimension of Juliet's contribution to this team has been her role as a Preceptor. She has mentored countless nurses — meeting each one where they were, building their confidence, and instilling in them not only the technical skills of the profession, but the values that define great nursing: empathy, advocacy, and an unwavering focus on the patient. The nurses she has trained are now some of the strongest members of this and other units, and each of them will tell you that Juliet's guidance was transformative. Her investment in the next generation of nurses is a gift to this profession that cannot be overstated.
Over the course of more than three decades, Juliet has shown up — consistently, selflessly, and with a level of care that never wavered. She has given 33 years of her life in service to patients and to this team, and she has done so with grace, warmth, and professionalism that have left an indelible mark on all of us.
As she prepares for retirement, we want her final chapter of service to be marked by the recognition she has always deserved but never sought for herself. We respectfully and enthusiastically urge the DAISY Award Selection Committee to honor Juliet with the DAISY Award. It would be a recognition that reflects not just a career, but a calling — lived out fully, generously, and with an extraordinary heart.
