My mother recently was fortunate enough to be assigned to 5 Layfield and have Julimol as her charge nurse. She not only cared for my mother, but showed genuine concern and compassion for my mom and our family. What impressed me most was Julimol's professionalism, nursing skills, and quick response to immediate concerns.
Family members can be overwhelmed when a loved one is in pain and they cannot help them. Julimol was always there at a moment's notice to help elevate our concerns as well as comfort our mother. One particular incident that was a turning point in our mother's care was when Julimol was asked to help my mom get repositioned in her bed upon returning from a CT scan. Julimol immediately stopped what she was doing and came to help. When Julimol entered the room, she quickly noted my mom was showing some concerning symptoms. She immediately began her assessment and within minutes she had called respiratory, the doctor, and xray. She continued her assessment while organizing all the other needed care, making sure everything was being done that needed to be done. Eventually my mom was moved to ICU, even then Julimol continued to show genuine concern. She came to ICU to visit not only to see how my mom was doing, but to offer any support to the family.
I truly believe Julimol encompasses everything that the DAISY Award represents. She is a leader in her field, an outstanding role model. She exhibits incredible nursing skill and quick decision-making skills, compassion, and she is a genuinely caring individual, all of which comes through in her nursing care of her patients and their families. I have a daisy in my car to remind me every day of my mom who has since passed away and to remind me of the extraordinary measures that Julimol and the ICU team did to care for her.
