The patient's family would like to recognize Juma Sirahenda, Staff Nurse on Ward D57, for the exceptional care he provided to both the patient and her family during her time on the ward.

"Our loved one was placed on end-of-life care. From the moment Juma came the following evening, he went above and beyond to care for her and support her family. He took the time to explain everything in simple, easy-to-understand terms, always doing so with compassion, patience, and reassurance.

One gesture that particularly touched us was the care he took in preparing the camp bed for the family members staying overnight. He even turned down the sheets, a small but incredibly thoughtful act that made us feel genuinely cared for during such a difficult time.

When Juma returned for his shift the next evening, he noticed there was a discrepancy with the prescription for our loved one's syringe driver medication. He immediately explained the situation to our family and promptly worked to resolve the issue. We greatly appreciated both his transparency and his swift action.

That same evening, after she had been repositioned, we returned to her room to find that Juma had thoughtfully brought her some ice cream because he believed it might help soothe her dry throat. She had not eaten anything that day, but she clearly enjoyed the ice cream and ended up eating two pots. It was a beautiful moment for our family and such a kind, compassionate gesture.

It was also clear to us that our loved one appreciated the exceptional care Juma gave her. She seemed to respond to his voice more than she did to other members of staff—perhaps she remembered him bringing her the ice cream.

During her stay, the hospital declared a critical incident. Although it was obvious that Juma and the rest of the staff were under tremendous pressure, he never allowed that to affect the quality of care he provided. He continued to make time for her and ensured that our family felt informed, reassured, and supported throughout.

While every member of staff we encountered on Ward D57 provided excellent care, Juma stood out as "the best of the best." It wasn't just what he did—it was the kindness, compassion, and genuine humanity with which he did it.

Sadly, our loved one passed away a few days later while Juma was off duty, so we never had the opportunity to thank him in person. We hope this nomination conveys just how deeply grateful we are for the extraordinary kindness he showed to her and to our family during her final days."

Thank you, Juma, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
