I really believe that Justin taking the initiative to put my husband in a chair really helped his recovery.
My husband came to Kaiser Redwood City very sick. The shunt he had in his head due to hydrocephalus had become infected, and it had to be surgically removed. On the second day of his stay, he met the nurse Justin. I explained to Justin that, even though he’s bedridden, we always make sure to get him up and sit him in his recliner or wheelchair so he can go outside. Justin said, “We can totally do that here”. Justin took the initiative to lift my husband, who is 6 feet tall and 300 pounds, using a Hoyer lift and place him in a chair. The first day he did that, my husband couldn’t even hold his head up. Justin had to tie his head back to keep it from falling forward. Justin did this 3 to 4 times a day for three days and on the fourth day, even though Justin wasn’t there, I explained to the nurses how Justin was able to get him up and how he did it and I was amazed that on the fourth day, he was able to hold his own head up and sit in the chair for a couple of hours. I really believe that Justin taking the initiative to put my husband in a chair really helped his recovery. Justin is compassionate and caring. He’s a really good nurse who knows what he’s doing. Kaiser needs more nurses like him.
