A new swing bed patient was admitted with the anticipation of being in the hospital for a little over a month, this patient came with about 3 sets of clothes and was considering leaving AMA over not being able to wash his clothes. Justin took it upon himself to take this patient's clothes home every couple of days, wash them, and bring them back, encouraging the patient to stay in our facility longer. The patient did not care for some of the food and was tired of the same snacks daily, so to help keep this patient calm and from leaving, Justin would go to the hospital snack bar or quick shop and buy this patient snacks, averaging around $40-50 a week in snacks, just to help ensure he would not leave without completing the required antibiotics. This patient was known for getting a little snippy at times, but Justin was always able to calm him down and reason with this patient when others could not. Justin showed us the true spirit of mercy and embodied the spirit of Catherine McCauley as he cared for this patient.
