My mother was admitted through the ER to the medical floor. Her hospital admission was very unexpected. She was spending her summer at a family cabin 2 hours north. We brought her to Minneapolis for medical care with no knowledge of the medical systems in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. Upon being admitted to the general medicine floor, we were greeted by Justin RN. As a nurse, Justin has astounding attention to detail. He made sure that every assessment and comfort measure was attended to for my mother. He took his time to complete her admission. Orienting, assessing, informing, and reassuring. There was not a question that we had that was unanswered when he finished admitting her to the floor. His demeanor was calm and professional, caring, and compassionate. My mother had been bothered by back pain. This was not the reason for the admission. When she voiced that she was having back discomfort with the standard hospital bed, he sprang into action and was determined to secure a different bed that offered more support for her back. Despite the change in environment, unfamiliar noises, and routine, she slept soundly on the first night of her stay. Justin made sure that I, her daughter, had all the information I needed to call for medical updates. I was encouraged to contact him with any questions during his shift with his direct number or the unit desk with any questions. Justin even contacted me by phone after I had left for the evening to confirm that I had her phone (which my mother couldn’t find) and to update me on her evening condition. We didn’t get a chance to see him other than that shift, but his kindness and attention to detail left us with a feeling of gratitude and reassurance. What a wonderful nurse and what a positive experience. I am quite sure Justin’s qualities exemplify exactly what United Hospital envisions for all of its staff members. It is my hope that Justin gets a chance to review his positive nomination. Thank you, Justin!
