Justin Moore, BSN

In November, I was hospitalized on the surgical/oncology unit for 8 days following a complicated colon surgery. Justin Moore was one of my nurses, and I am honored to nominate him for the DAISY Award. For the first few days following surgery, I experienced oozing of copious amounts of thick, sticky fecal material, which I could neither feel coming on soon enough to get to the bathroom nor control. There was too much of it to clean myself up. It was an embarrassing, frightening, and distressing situation to not be able to take care of my own bathroom needs - let alone to need the assistance of a male nurse. Justin offered care in a matter-of-fact, yet kind and gentle manner - even using many packages of warm wipes! He greatly reduced my feelings of humiliation. He also offered encouragement, reassurance, compassion, and great humor during our interactions. As a nurse, he was professional and skillful, and he communicated and educated us in easily understandable terms. Justin helped me through some of my darkest days. He not only took great care of my body, but he also took great care of ME! I will be forever grateful.
