Justin provided exceptional care to a homeless family in need. I was volunteering with a family when their four-month-old was having trouble breathing. The mother asked me to take them to the ER, which I did. Once Justin escorted me and the family to an exam room, it was still dirty from a previous patient and Justin immediately moved the family to a clean room.
Once the doctor determined the baby had a viral infection and just needed some medication, Justin came back and gently administered the medication. He explained to the family what the medication was and what is was used for, and that it was mixed with apple juice to be pleasing to the baby's taste. Justin further explained to the mother what needed to be done to help the baby get over the infection, what to look out for in case he got worse, and he addressed any questions she had.
The family is from Africa and their English is limited, but Justin did an excellent job in going over the information several times in slightly different ways so that the mother completely understood. Justin's manner provided the mother with lots of comfort and assurance, and I had the impression that Justin treats all his patients this way. Justin exemplifies the MMH culture we all strive to aspire to.
Because of Justin's compassionate and caring efforts, his patients experience a level of care that exemplifies the impact nurses have in creating an environment where patients and families feel at home. He goes above and beyond for the patients and families he cares for.
