My father has been having several health problems associated with age. He has visited the hospital on a fairly regular basis. Recently, he was hospitalized due to a bladder and blood infection. Although not a critical situation, he was struggling with delusions and confusion. Additionally, my mother has dementia and is easily confused. Justin took his time to explain to my father and the family what was going on, what was going to be happening, and what to expect. He answered repetitive questions from confused parents with patience and using different language to simplify information without being demeaning.
Justin heard my father's complaints of pain and responded or explained what was occurring for him. Justin listened to my father's complaints of being in the hospital and made offers to assist him in ways to make it feel a little more like home. Justin answered my mother's questions with compassion and in a manner that she could understand. Justin interacted with my father and mother in a manner that made them feel at ease, confident, and that they were in good hands. This assisted in my father's healing process.
