There are not enough kind words that can be said about Justine Barrow. As a nurse and as a coworker she is exceptional in every way always offering a smile with a heaping dose of positivity.
Justine, without any hesitancy, was one of the first nurses to volunteer to care for our COVID patients. Without any doubt or fear, she has offered compassion and strength to every patient and to her peers. Justine's resiliency is one to be admired; through the despair of seeing patients succumb to a novel virus with so many unknowns, her spirit has never dampened.
One patient in particular Justine demonstrated her compassion and commitment to caring for this patient population that oftentimes are isolated in their final hours of life. This patient had a sister that was supported by Justine to visit and say goodbye to her brother. The patient's sister, unfortunately, was unable to watch her brother pass. Justine comforted her as well as offered assurance that her brother would be well cared for and kept comfortable.
Justine stayed with her patient after he was extubated. She remained at his bedside with all her PPE (personal protective equipment). Justine was not concerned about her discomfort; she wanted to stay at her patient's side. She held his hand until he passed. Justine, simply stated, did not want her patient to die alone.
Justine has comforted many patients and their families in their time of need. She is truly an angel who shies away from being recognized because this is truly her heart's passion. It is because of her selflessness and caring ability that I truly feel Justine is a true DAISY Nurse.
