She was always the most gracious, supportive, and compassionate individual to work with.
Justine was my voice of reason over the phone and MyChart during my pregnancy and the plunge into new parenthood also known as postpartum. She took my calls about everything from counting baby kicks, to thyroid questions, to navigating clogged ducts and mastitis. She was always the most gracious, supportive, and compassionate individual to work with. I once called on my first Friday back at work after maternity leave. It had been a challenging week and I was feeling a little fragile. I called at 4pm as I could feel my first bout of true mastitis coming on from not having enough time to pump, knowing it was a slim chance to talk to someone, but she called me back quickly and affirmed that the return to work was a rocky transition. She was able to touch base with one of the midwives on call and advocate on my behalf for an antibiotic in case I spiked a fever over the weekend. I picked up the medication to have on hand, but she had counseled me through enough supportive care measures and warned me about the long course of treatment, and I was able to weather the discomfort and clear the infection without the antibiotic. Triage nursing can feel like a thankless job, but Justine maintains her compassion and is an incredibly effective communicator and advocate. I'm sure the midwifery clinic knows how lucky they are to have her, but from one nurse to another, I was so grateful she was in that role while I navigated pregnancy and postpartum! It made a world of difference.
