I want Justine to know that she is doing exactly what she was called to do. She is an extraordinary nurse, and we were so lucky to have her care for us during our stay.
Let me start by saying that all of our nurses and aides during our stay were phenomenal. However, one nurse, in particular, will always hold a special place in our hearts. Justine was our day nurse for two days; not only did she take incredible care of me and our newborn son physically, but she also was there for my husband and me for emotional support when we needed it most.
See, at my 35-week ultrasound they detected that the right ventricles of our son’s brain were enlarged. A post-natal ultrasound was ordered. Less than 24 hours after being born our newborn son had his post-natal ultrasound and the results came back the same. As a mom looking at my perfect newborn son, I was heartbroken. The neurologist was spitting out these huge terms and I just blanked out and couldn’t wrap my head around what was happening. They ordered an MRI for our son to get a better look at his brain.
Justine came in shortly after and I was an emotional mess. I was sobbing, staring at my perfect baby boy. I’m not even sure if Justine remembers what she said because I truly believe this is just who she is, but she walked over to our son and she looked at him took his vitals and she calmly said, “He’s perfect and he’s going to do great with his MRI and we just need to keep praying for him that everything turns out for the best.” She was right! Our son is perfect for us, and we needed to pray for him and not stop, and everything will work out.
Justine genuinely cared about our son, and she put this mama’s mind, heart, and soul at ease. She spoke in terms I could understand. I’m a very well-educated individual and hold two college degrees, but the terms being spat out to us by the neurology team were terms I was not familiar with, and they were (to me) big scary words that upset me even more.
Fast forward 3 months. Our baby boy just had his 3-month follow-up MRI and the original concern has resolved on its own. I want Justine to know that she is doing exactly what she was called to do. She is an extraordinary nurse, and we were so lucky to have her care for us during our stay. I know she’s helping many other families, just like she helped mine.
