Kady was the perfect nurse for this patient and her family and I cannot thank her enough for being so thoughtful and advocating for her patient, as well as, collaborating so well for NFU.
I personally want to give a big shout-out to Kay Klasne in the ICU! She was absolutely amazing to this patient, her family, and to NFU staff as well. For the majority of the time in our field, it is a happy time. There are those few instances where things unfortunately do not go as planned and our precious mommas have to be taken care of at a more critical level than what we as Labor and Delivery and Post-Partum nurses can provide.

I reached out to Kady on Sunday morning to see how this patient was doing because I needed to see about getting lactation to come visit her if need be. With that being said, Kady got back to me and said she was still intubated and sedated but she would keep me updated throughout the day with the plan of care. Kady also took the initiative to ask if her babies could come and do skin-to-skin because she was aware of the benefits of this; as she is a new momma herself. We collaborated as two different teams to make this happen, not just once but a few times throughout the day. I cannot express the feeling in the room the very first time we placed her baby boy on her chest (sister didn’t get to come because she was in the NICU).

The mom instantly lifted her arm up, placed her hand on the back of the baby boy’s back, and started gently rubbing him. We told her it was her baby boy and she nodded. It was a special moment to see this baby connect with his very sick momma. Needless to say, the whole entire room was filled with tears; it was truly amazing. In my 8 ½ years of being in Women’s Service, I can honestly say that I have yet to see another nurse from another department ask for this; usually, it is us asking if can make this happen first. Kady was the perfect nurse for this patient and her family and I cannot thank her enough for being so thoughtful and advocating for her patient, as well as, collaborating so well for NFU.

***

Recently, our family went through a very tough loss involving our husband, grandfather, brother, and dad. Fortunately for us, we had the most amazing nurse, Kady. She was extremely supportive, very empathetic, and informative. Kady was very supportive throughout the entire process until the very end.

From the moment we first met her, she was completely honest and clear with us. She was also open to any questions we had and comforted us in any way she could. When we finally had to make a very difficult decision, she was very caring, considerate, and empathetic. We all agreed that Kay was the most empathetic nurse we had ever met. For example, when we had chosen to take our loved one off of the ventilator, Kady asked us what his favorite music was so that he would be more comfortable as he passed. Kady cared for our needs as well as his.

When we wanted to have a private moment with him, Kady respected our requests and understood them. She updated us on everything all of the time and told us the information we needed to know. Kady told us everything from what time rounds with doctors were to the process of palliative care. We greatly appreciate Kady’s services. She is a true medical steward.
