Kaelyn was my first nurse after being admitted. While all of the staff tasked with my care were fantastic, I feel Kaelyn stood out. She gave advice when prompted but made sure to steer clear of strong opinions and was extremely supportive of my wishes. She offered encouragement inside and outside of the room and helped normalize the process for me. She treated my partner with respect and acknowledged that he was in the room and understood my wishes when I could not speak. What stood out to me most about Kaelyn was when my labor had stalled, I broke down. Instead of telling me white lies or that everything was going to be okay, she sat on the floor next to me and let me break down. She held space for me when she knew words were not going to make a difference in how I felt. She understood that I just needed to break down and express my frustrations. It is very rare to find people comfortable enough to sit back and watch someone suffer for hours while providing support in a nonjudgemental way. She also got to my level, literally by kneeling or sitting, so she knew I saw her and understood what was going on. Kaelyn, thank so much for contributing a beacon of light on one of the hardest days of my life. You made a traumatic experience bearable and helped me understand the process. You helped me pull through, to not give up, and started the process to help me deliver my beautiful baby girl.
