From the moment Kaete introduced herself as the nursing student working alongside the nurse caring for my father that day, she demonstrated the kind of compassion, empathy, and dedication that I hope to see in every student and nurse.
Kaete has a remarkable ability to put patients at ease, especially those who are experiencing particularly difficult circumstances. She is intentional with her words and actions, listens carefully, takes the time to comfort others, and consistently advocates for the best care possible.

During clinicals, Kaete is always looking for ways to help every patient around her, even those who are not part of her assigned patient load. Time and again, I have watched her bring smiles to patients' faces by sharing jokes, sitting quietly beside them, or simply holding their hand during vulnerable moments. Her compassion extends far beyond completing required tasks—it is evident in every interaction she has with patients and their families.

In addition to my own observations, Kaete made such a profound impression on one patient's family that they took the time to submit a nomination for a hospital DAISY Award. Unfortunately, nursing students are not eligible for that recognition, but the fact that a family felt compelled to formally recognize her speaks volumes about the impact she made during her clinical experience.

The family shared the following:

"From the moment Kaete introduced herself as the nursing student working alongside the nurse caring for my father that day, she demonstrated the kind of compassion, empathy, and dedication that I hope to see in every student and nurse.

She was always quick to lend a helping hand and never once hesitated to do whatever she could to help. Throughout the day, I found myself asking the nurse and Kaete for many different things for my father. Kaete remained incredibly patient and understanding every single time. Not once did she show frustration or irritation with my repeated requests, even though I know I was probably overwhelming. It was obvious that she genuinely cared about making sure my father was comfortable and receiving the best care possible.

What touched me most was the way she also cared for me. Kaete checked on my well-being, asked how I was coping, truly listened to my concerns, and offered encouragement when I needed it most. I had been experiencing one of the worst months of my life, and her empathy, genuine understanding, and sense of humor brought me comfort during an incredibly difficult time.

Kaete truly exemplifies the qualities that make an exceptional nurse. She treated both my father and me with the utmost respect and made me feel seen, heard, supported, and valued. I have no doubt she will become an extraordinary nurse, and I am deeply grateful for the care she provided."

Kaete consistently demonstrates that exceptional nursing extends beyond clinical competence. She naturally creates meaningful human connections, advocates for those in her care, and brings comfort during life's most challenging moments. Her compassion, empathy, and dedication already reflect the very best of the nursing profession, and I have no doubt she will continue to make an extraordinary impact throughout her career.
