Kai is an important part of our team at San Leandro Hospital. He has a smile that puts everyone at ease and makes them feel welcome. We could nominate Kai for many different situations where he went above and beyond and provided extraordinary care to our patients. From calling dialysis to get a patient pick up or just get a report from another nurse to help transport a patient to surgery when there were no CNAs to picking up blood at the blood bank for patients that needed it right away. Following up on critical labs to expediting transportation for a patient who needed to be discharged, holding a patient’s hand when getting blood drawn, picking up medication from the pharmacy because another nurse could not, showing a visitor where a department is so they can get their test done such as RT department, Cardiology, or Lab. Kai’s always available and dedicated to helping patients, families, co-workers, and staff from our and other departments. He is a kind, respectful, and joyful person to work with on the floor.

When Kai takes on a task, he completes it in a timely manner, he helps patients that are not even assigned for him to take care of for the day. When Kai was once our manager, doing his round, he would not hesitate to help patients to the bedside commode, or to use the bedpan. Despite his authority, he works beside the team. Kai’s leadership can be summed up as a person who shows support, has passion, and displays great motivation in his daily tasks.
