Kailee calmed us and comforted us in such a compassionate manner - it was exactly what we needed.
As first-time parents, we were recovering from the delivery of our new little one and had to stay longer than we anticipated. Adapting to no sleep, recovering from the delivery itself, accepting our longer stay due to our daughter's higher bilirubin levels, and transitioning to the life of parenthood left both of us feeling anxious and even a little stir crazy during the last night of our stay in the hospital. Kailee came in that evening as we just found out we were going to need to start phototherapy, we shared our concerns and anxieties with her as tears fell down our faces, and she immediately affirmed us in how we were feeling. She didn't dismiss what we were saying but instead, she personally told us how she struggles with anxiety herself and then assured us that our feelings were normal. She calmed us and comforted us in such a compassionate manner - it was exactly what we needed. Kailee respected us as patients in her medical care, but more importantly in her emotional support. Any nurse can pass out Tylenol and Motrin to a new mother, but it takes a very special nurse to take the time (when her floor was already short-staffed) to sit with and affirm a new mom when she is just starting her transition to motherhood and feeling overwhelmed, as well as anxious. I have never felt more cared for and respected by someone in the medical field. Kailee knows how to show her patient she respects them! Kailee went above and beyond to provide us with comfort during an unsettling time. She wrote, "Beautiful Mama" on my water bottle, offered to rock our baby under the phototherapy treatment so that we could get out of our hospital room and get fresh air, listened to our sleep-deprived and anxious concerns when we repeatedly hit the call light throughout the night, offered to make me a "mama spa" in the jacuzzi tub to help me relax and unwind, rocked our daughter and offered her a finger to suck when she would cry to become unsettled during phototherapy, she always responded with such gentleness when we shared our concerns, wrote us a sweet and caring card to encourage us during our stay, promptly answered our call light when we were worried about the baby being cold/hungry during the treatment, and continually asked if my husband or I needed a break as we tried to comfort our daughter throughout the night. We thank God for blessing us with Kailee that last night of our stay, she was an answered prayer and went above and beyond to make us feel cared for. Thank you Kailee for your compassion - we will always remember you!
