I was admitted to Farr 11 after an 8 day stay in the Neuro ICU. When I arrived to Farr 11 I was pretty out of it. I was still suffering from the effects of ICU delirium and was scared for my life. I thought that mostly everyone was trying to harm me. Then Kaileen was assigned as my nurse. Though I was still suffering from the aftereffects of being in the ICU, I felt at ease while under her care. I’ve had the privilege of working with some great nurses over the years, but none of them have ever made me feel so safe so quickly. I am a person who doesn’t trust anyone at first, but Kaileen made it so easy for me. Kaileen is so intelligent and confident and delivers her nursing care with a great sense of competency. The empathy and compassion she feels for her patients are delivered with great skill, humor, and a bit of silliness, which is an instant “ice breaker.” All of these redeeming qualities allow her patients to trust her almost instantly. Kaileen is one of those nurses who just have a “positive vibe” to them, and I was able to see this through the residual ICU delirium I was dealing with. Kaileen always took the extra time I needed in order to make me feel safe and cared for. I felt so understood and comforted when I was working with her. I wish I could do more to express my gratitude to Kaileen for the marvelous care she provides to her patients on a daily basis. I hope that this nomination shows her how valued she is both as a nurse and a human being. I truly believe that some people are born to do this work, and I very much believe that Kaileen is one of those humans. It comes so naturally to her. All nurses should be more like Kaileen. In closing, I’d like to say that all your hard work and everything you’ve worked so diligently for over the years does not go unnoticed. I simply can’t thank you enough!
