During the hardest time a mother could go through, not knowing if my daughter would pull through or not, this lady who insists “she was only doing her job” made it bearable. Kaitlin Barlow not only took good care of my daughter, she also took good care of me too. She explained everything I asked, and she assured me that what was being done was the best for my daughter. She made me feel more knowledgeable, meaning I could pass this info on to the rest of my family, as at the time, we didn’t have a clue and were so scared. Informing the families of all the things they didn’t know about, gives the family some strength that is needed to be there for your patient and their family. In my case, my daughter is a single parent with only us and her 3-year-old son. Kaitlin even asked after us to make sure that we took care of ourselves, so we could support the patient. The love for her job is absolutely clear, this wasn’t just a job, like I had seen from other nurses, this was also coming from her heart. After my daughter spent nearly 2 weeks in a coma and is now on the road to recovery, I wanted to thank Kaitlin from the bottom of my heart. She does as she says, “Just doing her job”, but she also does it amazingly. Nurses like her are few and far between now, I wish they were all like her. She needs to know how amazing she is.
