Kaitlin took care of a newly admitted patient with a new, heavy diagnosis. It was also this patient's birthday. Kaitlin knew this patient was having a hard time with the grim diagnosis and spending her birthday without her family. Kaitlin went above and beyond the standard nursing care, and with approval and within dietary orders, was able to order this patient a cake to be brought to the hospital. Kaitlin and the ICU staff celebrated and sang happy birthday to the patient. She also retrieved a card from the patient's family member to help celebrate.
This act of kindness warmed my heart. The patient was so surprised and very grateful, I wanted to fill this out on her behalf. Kaitlin really made this patient's birthday go from a bad day to a good one!
