It was such a short interaction with Kait, but her gentle kindness and understanding have stayed with me throughout my healing from my miscarriage.
According to her nominator, Kait showed a patient great compassion during a difficult time. After a number of years of infertility, Bodette's nominator was pregnant and experiencing heavy bleeding, severe cramping, dizziness and tachycardia:
"I knew that what was happening was very bad. I was also worried. Due to COVID-19, Mayo had just announced that at 7 p.m. that day, visitors would no longer be allowed. The thought of potentially losing my baby alone was terrifying."
Kait met the patient and her husband in the waiting room and told the woman that she would not let her go through this alone.
"Kait helped me change into a hospital gown and started to take my first set of vitals. I told her what was happening in between sobs. After I was done explaining, she turned to me, squeezed my hand, and looked me straight in the eyes and said, 'You are not alone.'"
"It was such a short interaction with Kait, but her gentle kindness and understanding have stayed with me throughout my healing from my miscarriage. I was nervous going to the ER because my miscarriage seemed insignificant compared to the other emergencies coming in."
Kait took the time to acknowledge her nominator as a person and recognize that she was experiencing one of the worst situations that a woman could go through.
"Our short interaction left a profound impact on me, and I am forever grateful. Thank you so much, Kait."
