It was a devastating day when we made the choice to remove life support from my brother. This amazing nurse made a huge difference in how the day played out. She provided professional, compassionate care to him and to us, his family. She sought out our expectations for the day. She also thoroughly explained how things would go and everything that she was doing. She collaborated with the physicians and RT for a plan of care. She was the one who actually extubated my brother. This was the most difficult day of our lives. She went above and beyond being available to us. Each time she was in the room, she would be proactive in asking if there was anything we needed. I am a nurse, but I can not imagine having to do her job on a daily basis! Some nurses get hardened or calloused working in such an environment, but it is very obvious that this nurse has the softest heart of gold! I want to say Thank you to her and all of the CPICU staff for their tireless efforts!
