As time went on, our son dealt with hard emotional days. Kaity looked for ways to lift his spirits.
Our 16-year-old son was in the PICU for 20 days. He was intubated for 7-days. During that time, while he was awake, Kaity helped him feel calm and in control. She helped him develop sign language to tell the nurses what he needed. She gave him her phone so he could write out what he needed – a perfect way for a 16-year-old young man to communicate.

Kaity was a great advocate for him, making sure the various doctors knew his needs. As time went on, our son dealt with hard emotional days. Kaity looked for ways to lift his spirits. She hung pictures of our son and family and friends. She played games with him and talked with him to let him think of something else besides his illness. As our son progressed, Kaity kept encouraging him to work harder and do the things needed to get stronger. She also helped us make it through those long days. Because of Kaity’s example, our son knows he wants to go into the nursing field after graduating from high school. She is a special nurse!
