She is always available to provide support and advice on all aspects of academia and nursing.
Kala embodies the school's mission and vision in her leading the largest track in the graduate program both BSN-DNP and MSN FNP tracks. She is committed to excellence for student education with high board certification pass rates and expectations for graduates to provide the highest quality of patient care. She demonstrates the core values of the school through her teaching, mentoring of new faculty, the building of scholarships, and nurse practitioner practice at a nonprofit clinic for the uninsured. I have observed her interactions with students as professional but caring and kind. She receives high praise in the exit interviews each semester from students noting what big a difference she makes in the program with her teaching and guidance. She has mentored me as new faculty, as well as a new track coordinator with patience and inspiration to excellence in education, leadership, and scholarship. She is always available to provide support and advice on all aspects of academia and nursing. Her scholarship in chronic disease management and clinical education is a perfect fit for her role. She has been active in the NONPF Preceptor Committee including leading a presentation on the committee's work next week at the NONPF conference. That is the thing about Kala, she will work hard and be a leading contributor to any service or committee she is involved in (which is very numerous). I have watched her in many meetings and have always been impressed with her knowledge and interactions with colleagues even during tough situations. This is especially true when it involves students. She is a fierce advocate for students' rights and equity. Her interpersonal skills and kind heart make her an outstanding leader and an ideal candidate for the DAISY Award.
