As a charge nurse, Kalani is pulled in a million directions, especially in the Emergency Room Department. Not only does she manage staffing, incoming patients, and a constant diligence of overall safety, but she also has to make rapid decisions that can change at a moment's notice. Kalani does all of this while still looking for rapid decisions that can change at a moment's notice and looking for opportunities to provide compassionate patient care.

On another very busy day in the emergency room, a patient who lacked housing arrived. This patient was in need of clothing, bathing, and food. Even though this was not Kalani's patient and she was the charge nurse, she took it upon herself to wash his feet since he could not. She then helped clean him up and made him comfortable. I don't think she realized what this did for him. But the Emergency Room staff did. They saw how she treated him with compassion and humanity. There can be a stigma on homeless patients, but never does Kalani see that as a factor. Kalani saw a patient who needed help to feel better. Again, this was not her patient, and yet she recognized what would make this patient feel better. This is only one example of how Kalani goes above and beyond to care for those around her.
