I wanted to tell you how amazing Kalli Goewey is! She had a patient tonight and was concerned about severe acute abdominal pain. She had already gotten orders for Fentanyl but it wasn’t enough. He’s recently dx with cancer and given a 6month prognosis. He went yesterday to IR for PEG tube placement and was on a hep gtt. I was HART and she called me for suggestions. We got a KUB and after felt comfortable giving him his PO pain and anxiety meds, which helped him settle.

Kalli is one of the most genuine and compassionate nurses I know. She stayed with that patient the entire time, held his hand, and reassured him in such a kind and loving way. I would have no compunctions about her caring for my family. By the end of the night, he was very comfortable and sang Kalli a song he wrote. He was so thrilled with the praise and attention that she managed to get me and most of the unit in the room for him to sing his song again. It was a really beautiful moment for a patient who started the shift in severe pain and ended it with happy memories and applause for a funny song. She’s a strong advocate as well! The physician was giving her some pushback on more pain meds, doing the KUB, starting fluids, and more. But she was patient and persistent and got the patient taken care of.
