August 2026 Honoree
Kallie Neuhaus, BSN, RN
I would like to recognize Kallie for the extraordinary care and compassion she provided during one of the most difficult experiences of my life.
On a Friday, I arrived at the Birth Center expecting routine additional testing during my twin pregnancy at 31 weeks and 1 day. Instead, I was diagnosed with HELLP Syndrome and learned that I would need an emergency C-section. In a matter of hours, my world was turned upside down. Throughout the fear, uncertainty, and urgency of that night, Kallie was my steady source of support.
Kallie cared for me through the emergency delivery and my recovery afterward with remarkable skill, kindness, and empathy. Because of my condition, I was unable to meet my babies for the first 24 hours after they were born. Understanding how heartbreaking that separation was, Kallie took photos during and after the delivery so that I could see my babies. She even went to the NICU afterward to take additional pictures for me, ensuring I could feel connected to them when I could not be there myself.
What touched my family and me the most was that Kallie's care extended far beyond her assigned responsibilities. Every weekend she worked, she made a point to visit us in the NICU. Those visits meant more than she could have known. During a time filled with anxiety, uncertainty, and emotional highs and lows, seeing a familiar face who genuinely cared about our family brought tremendous comfort. She celebrated our babies' progress, checked on my recovery, and reminded us that we were not alone.
Kallie transformed what could have been a purely traumatic experience into one marked by compassion, humanity, and hope. She cared for me not only as a patient but as a mother separated from her newborn babies and as a person facing one of the most frightening moments of her life. Her thoughtfulness, dedication, and unwavering support left a lasting impact on our family.
I will always be grateful for Kallie and the extraordinary difference she made in our lives. She embodies everything the DAISY Award represents and is truly deserving of this recognition.
