May 2021 Honoree
Kameliah Hicks, RN
Kameliah received my mother post-op and did a phenomenal job. She met and surpassed your values and criteria by adding a true sense of family to her care. She demonstrated this on post-op day 1. I returned in the morning to see my mother before work and never made it to work. As soon as I got there Kam informed me mom was not herself.
From the short amount of time Kam had with her the day before, she was able to see my mom was delirious from the medication/anesthesia. Kam and I worked together to determine her needs and worked with the MD to adjust her medications, Dcing the meds that were the culprit. Kam helped me cope through seeing my normally fine mother go through this state. Kam even held me when I cried while my mom wasn’t looking. That’s Family!
I work in healthcare and recognize exceptional care when I see it and that was Kameliah! She is a role model of the DAISY and I hope other RNs can learn from Kam and have opportunities to mentor with her. In addition, she was honest and completed her tasks with the highest integrity and ethics. Kameliah’s care organically provided service recovery for another department. She should be commended because she made things better.
