Not only does she help, but she also spends time with these patients during her rounds, being compassionate in listening to any concerns they have about their health, their care, or even their future.
Kamie may be relatively new to being a nurse director for our floor, but she is not new to being a leader in nursing. Throughout her time at Baxter, she has served as not only a Charge nurse but has also sat on numerous councils, task forces, teams, and committees in all different aspects of membership- including chair and/or co-chair for many. She has always maintained a character of caring for those around her, never being afraid to do any amount or type of work. She values all her staff as she has always valued her co-workers and other employees of the organization and has helped encourage involvement from others in decisions that would affect their practice or day-to-day activities. She helps our team build ideas together, encouraging those who are not always involved to offer their input while ensuring that as many voices as possible can be heard. But, mostly, Kamie always supports her people. There has seldom been a week in the last several months that she hasn't helped get a patient from another floor, toileted a patient, helped with a skin assessment, or done some other type of care just to help her employees care for their patients best. Not only does she help, but she also spends time with these patients during her rounds, being compassionate in listening to any concerns they have about their health, their care, or even their future. Being a new leader can often bring out difficult decisions or situations with changes, but Kamie has continued to stand behind us and encouraged us to push through. She is and always has been supportive of us, reminding us of the good work that we do for our patients and our organization. I cannot begin to tell you how many times she has been the reason I have come back to work the next day after having a particularly hard time the day before. It's a tremendous weight lifted off your shoulders when you know that you have a leader who will sincerely try to understand and help solve a problem while simultaneously validating your concerns. She is a role model I am glad our nurses have, and honored to work with her any time.
