She found a basket in our break room along with some pink tissue and lovingly wrapped the remains so that the patient was able to take her daughter out of the hospital with dignity.
Kamy goes above and beyond for all her patients. This is one example of everything that being a nurse is truly about. Due to a recent policy change, having a D&E for a pregnancy greater than 12 weeks, allows patients to take the remains of the fetus should they desire to arrange a private burial. As you can imagine, the patient and family were extremely emotional about the entire procedure in light of being 15 weeks pregnant and suffering an unexpected loss. This nurse provided comfort and care to the patient and her family explaining the process. Upon completion, the OR brought the remains of the fetus out to the post op area in a clear container in a clear bag. The nurse knew how vulnerable and emotional this experience had already been for her patient. She went above and beyond to spare them from being handed their baby girl in a plastic bag. She found a basket in our break room along with some pink tissue and lovingly wrapped the remains so that the patient was able to take her daughter out of the hospital with dignity. It was because of this act of kindness that we ordered tiny boxes for any future patient who should find themselves in this most difficult position. What no one knew was that this nurse was pregnant and experiencing complications during that time. Taking care of a patient going through such a difficult loss is hard on any day, but especially hard watching her set aside her situation to show selfless care for her patient.
