Most importantly, he listened and had conversations with me when I was anxious and at my lowest. I never had a bad night when Kane was here, it was always great.
Hello Kane, thank you for taking care of my dad all night that day. Our family thanks you very much. Thank you for talking to my dad in Cantonese and not letting him suffer too much. Although we do not want him to give up, we respect his wish. Thank you for understanding my dad. Thank you for giving him medicine and communicating with our family at the nighttime. Thank you for using your ability to let my brother, mother, and I visit my father for the last time in his life. We want to tell you that my father is in the harmony of heavens. You are a good nurse. We wish you peace in your life. We are grateful and thank you very much.

Hello Mr. Kane, I am the grandson of a patient you cared for who passed away recently. Thank you for updating our family during the night of my grandpa in the hospital. Thanks for letting my family know about our grandpa’s wishes and the situation. Your help for my grandpa has made the difficult time more bearable for our family. Thank you, your ICU department, for all the help. We wish you good luck and health in your life.

Kane was my nurse for many nights during my long stay in the hospital. During my difficult recovery time before and after heart surgery, Kane took care of me as if I was his own family. His kindness was remarkable, and he always took the time to listen to my questions. Kane took the time to teach me what the doctor’s plans were and what the treatments I was getting. Kane took the time to explain procedures that were planned for me and explained to me everything that he did. He taught me how to take care of my surgical site, he cleaned me when I was dirty, and most importantly, he listened and had conversations with me when I was anxious and at my lowest. I never had a bad night when Kane was here, it was always great. Kane encouraged me to do better after my own struggles. We had many long conversations during these long nights, Kane really looked after me and took the time to understand my past substance use even when he was not my nurse. He never judged me but rather encouraged me to do better. Even after leaving the ICU to the regular unit. Kane took the time to come, visit me and see how I was doing and continued to look after me. Because of his kindness, I can say Kane is an amazing nurse. Kane really made my stay at the hospital memorable, and I will never forget that for the rest of my life. Thank you for everything Kane, keep in touch.

I am nominating Kane because people deserve to know what a good nurse he is. Kane took care of me when I was in the hospital with endocarditis. Through my stay before and after surgery, Kane took the time to care for and educate me about the procedures I was getting. He always stuck around in my room longer to just talk and made sure I was ok and pain-free. Kane made sure I was clean and listened to all my concerns. After I left the ICU and went to the floor, Kane still came back every week to check if I was ok and made sure my surgical site was healing well. Kane always made sure I was looked after, and he never made me feel alone. After my appointments with the doctors, I saw Kane again and he continued to check up on me. He respected me, something that was not often done a lot.

It is an honor to acknowledge Mr. Kane Chau and recognize him as a DAISY Honoree. Kane has been instrumental in both SICU-5A, and not in CT-ICU 5C. He is compassionate, caring, and always willing to learn. He cares for his patients in a very charismatic, empathetic, respectful manner, even the most difficult patients he cares for find him to be patient, and always willing to listen to their needs. As a member of the CT-ICU team, he is always willing to help when the other nurses need help with tasks and patient care. He goes above and beyond to assure that all the patients are well cared for when he is charge. Kane, congratulations on a well-deserved award.
