Kara Durr, RN

My husband, J, was admitted after having a colon resection for newly diagnosed colon cancer. He seemed to be progressing well for the first few days. On Thursday, J began to feel nausea and chills in the early evening, which then escalated quickly to excruciating abdominal pain and a fever over 102. Kara acted very quickly, despite the chaos of shift change, to get a hold of J’s surgeon. Kara went above and beyond to make sure that the doctor was alerted to J’s change in condition. The fact that she recognized his decline so quickly speaks to her degree of clinical knowledge and attention to her patients.

Thanks to Kara and Dr. J, J was back in surgery Thursday night, and he’s here with us today! When you are sick and in pain at the hospital, nurses make such a huge impact on your experience. Kara is a great nurse, and we want her to know how much we appreciate her!
