Karee has made innumerable connections and relationships with patients and families, as well as the staff she selflessly serves. She acts as an incredible mentor to many of us and is often unaware of the impact she has.
A leader is someone who sees the potential in someone else and helps them grow. Karee Nicholson fulfills this part of being a leader and more. She has perfected the art of recognizing potential, and gently (oftentimes without the person realizing it) coaching others into seeing their own potential and ability to grow. Karee does this because she loves and gives big. Her ability to lead others was first apparent when she began as a bedside nurse and informally led her peers around her to always do the right thing to help patients and families feel seen and safe. As she has progressed through her leadership roles, Karee has made innumerable connections and relationships with patients and families, as well as the staff she selflessly serves. She acts as an incredible mentor to many of us and is often unaware of the impact she has. Other leaders have stated that Karee helps them feel more supported than anyone else has in their entire career and they value how much she cares about them not only professionally, but personally. The DAISY Award provides the opportunity to recognize those that exemplify the Healer’s Art of nursing. While the way nurse leaders care for patients and families may not be through direct bedside care, their ability to advocate and circles of influence extends to the bedside and beyond. Karee is known for her ability to advocate for others and she is extremely innovative to create solutions for the complex problems we face. There truly are not enough words to explain why Karee is so deserving of the DAISY Leader Award. We love you, Karee. Thank you for your authenticity in everything you do. By always being yourself and showing up, you create space for us to do the same for ourselves, our staff, and the patients and families we show up for every single day
