Karen shows up to work every day with a positive attitude and always ready to help.
When it came time to nominate someone for the DAISY Award, picking Karen was the easy part. Limiting all the great things she has done in the past year into one brief nomination story was the real challenge! Before joining the South San Francisco Home team, Karen was an ICHD RN at a challenging clinic. Her former FA had always said as soon as there was an opening on the Home team he wanted Karen to fill the position. When an HHD position opened up, Karen filled the spot. She immediately made a positive impact on our patients, teammates, and physicians.

Within six months of starting with the program, she doubled the HHD census. Karen shows up to work every day with a positive attitude and always ready to help any way she can. HHD nursing can be very stressful and demanding and Karen never complains and is always up to the challenge. Our HHD patients can be non-compliant and challenging to work with. Karen has not only been able to provide top-notch care to these patients but also helped many of them become more compliant and achieve better results from their dialysis treatments. Our physicians look to Karen for guidance and they have begun sending more patients to HHD because they completely trust Karen and know their patients will be in great hands.

Karen is just as thoughtful, caring, and compassionate when it comes to her teammates. Whenever she is in the breakroom there is always lots of laughter to be heard and teammates eager to spend time with her. Karen is an exceptional nurse and so well-deserving of the DAISY Award.
