Karen was my preceptor on the day shift for approximately 8 weeks. She is an exceptional nurse; always keeping the patient's safety in mind. She ensures that every patient safety bundle is carried out on her patients without fail. She would gently remind me if I forgot to do something in a way that was not demeaning or condescending.
Every day we came in and received a report at the bedside, involving family members when they were present; we scrubbed our hands, we cleaned each patient's room then started our day. Her approach to patient care has led me to develop an organized way of completing patient assessments so hopefully, any abnormal finding will not go unnoticed.
Karen possesses a very calm spirit in every situation. She is very approachable and friendly. In my career in management, she is definitely someone I would want to orient new staff. She didn't overwhelm me with information, she was very methodical in her teaching and gauged when I was ready to accept new information. She is a valuable employee in this organization.
